📊 Production, Consumption and Outlook for the Global Cotton Market

The January 2026 USDA monthly report brings important updates on the global cotton balance, highlighting export projections, consumption trends, and production changes among major market players.

According to the USDA, U.S. cotton exports are expected to increase by 2.4% during the 2025/26 marketing year (August 2025 to July 2026), supported by stronger international demand.

In China, cotton consumption rose by approximately 1.3% compared to December 2025, reflecting a gradual recovery in industrial activity and higher utilization by spinning mills.

China also recorded an increase of around 220 thousand tons in cotton production, mainly driven by higher yield per hectare, reinforcing the country’s strategic role in the global cotton supply and demand balance.

Overall, the report points to a market closely monitoring adjustments in production, consumption, and stocks — key factors that continue to influence prices and international trade flows.
