📊 Global Cotton Market: Insights from the August 2025 USDA Report
The August 2025 USDA monthly report, analyzed by Laferlins Corretora, provides important insights into the global cotton market. Global cotton production in August was 25,392 thousand tons, a 1.5% decrease from July. China led production with 6,858 thousand tons, followed by India with 5,117 thousand tons and Brazil with 3,974 thousand tons. The United States saw the most significant negative change in production, with a 9.5% drop from the previous month, totaling 2,877 thousand tons.
In the export landscape, the global volume in August was 9,490 thousand tons, a 2.5% decrease compared to July. Brazil’s exports remained stable at 3,113 thousand tons, showing no change. The U.S., however, experienced a 4.0% drop in exports, reaching 2,613 thousand tons.
Global cotton consumption in August was 25,688 thousand tons. China was the largest consumer, with 8,165 thousand tons, an increase of 2.7% from July. India and Bangladesh, however, showed decreases in consumption of 2.0% and 3.6%, respectively. For imports, the global volume was 9,489 thousand tons, a 2.5% reduction. Bangladesh was the top importer with 1,764 thousand tons, followed by Vietnam and Pakistan. China reduced its imports by 8.6% to 1,154 thousand tons.
Global final cotton stocks in August were 16,835 thousand tons, a 4.4% decrease from July. Brazil saw a significant 11.8% drop in stocks, totaling 820 thousand tons. China also had its stocks fall by 5.5%. In contrast, India recorded a 5.1% increase in final stocks.
